Srinagar, Dec 14 (KNO): Jammu and Kashmir Police on Saturday said to have booked seven notorious drug peddlers under PIT NDPS Act in Kulgam & Awantipora.
These notorious drug peddlers namely Nisar Ahmad Mir son of Abdul Salam Mir resident of Mohdpora Kulgam, Manzoor Ahmad Mir son of Abdul Samad Mir resident of Tengbal Kulgam and Hilal Ahmad Mir son of Abdul Rashid Mir resident of Bungam Okey, have been detained under The Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1988 through orders issued by Divisional Commissioner Kashmir and have been lodged in Central Jail Kot Bhalwal Jammu, a police spokesman said in a statement issued to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO).
Meanwhile in Awantipora, police said that four notorious drug peddlers namely Aadil Ahmad Bhat @Taigoo son of Abdul Majeed Bhat resident of Tulbagh Pampore, Gulzar Ahmad Dar son of Ghulam Hassan Dar resident of Panzgam Awantipora, Yawar Yousuf Sofi son of Mohd Yousuf Sofi resident of Kadlabal Pampore and Feroze Ahmad Chopan son of Mushtaq Ahmad resident of Larow Jagir Tral, have been booked under PIT NDPS Act after obtaining formal detention orders from the competent authority & subsequently lodged in District Jail Jammu and Central Jail Kot-Balwal Jammu.
Many cases are registered against these drug peddlers and they were involved in promoting drug trade by supplying drugs to youth of Police District Awantipora, police said.
It is pertinent to mention that under the provisions of Sec 3 of PIT NDPS Act 1988, a person engaged in Illicit Trafficking of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances, which poses a serious threat to the health of a person and society can be detained up to maximum period of one year and can be extended, police said.
Meanwhile, the statement reads that J&K Police is committed to continue its war against the drug peddlers and sought cooperation of people in curbing social evils especially drug abuse to save the youth from this fatal addiction—(KNO)
